PC
Battle Bash is a multiplayer tank combat game with very simple controls.  It is currently still in development.

Premise:

A very simple yet fun tank combat game; complete with up to 4-player local support!

Play on multiple stages with different game-modes and destroy your friends in hilarious battles to show them who's the tank battling master!

Visuals:

Nothing really amazing.  Tank textures tend to be a little bit low in quality and don't look all that great.

Background textures and stages seem to be somewhat generic and un-interesting.

Higher quality visuals might be in order, although the visuals don't detract from the overall charm of the game.

Sound/Music:

Sound design gets the job done.

I enjoyed the music selection.  Very catchy and retro-sounding tunes.

One thing I noticed about the music is that on certain levels, the music will not repeat, and that leaves the battles feeling somewhat empty.  This doesn't happen all the time though.

Controls:

There are two control schemes:  Keyboard/mouse, and gamepad.  The mouse and keyboard are only usable in 2-player mode, and you can connect up to 4 controllers to your PC to play, provided you have enough USB ports of course.  Both are pretty simple to control.

Generally the mouse and keyboard control reasonably well, but you are not able to move diagonally, which makes movement somewhat clunky.

X-box 360 controllers work quite nicely.  What I found odd is that the mouse and keyboard control scheme has slower movement speed than the controller setup.  I found this a little odd, as it gives the controller player a massive and unfair advantage.

Gameplay:

The game is a blast!  Chase your friends around while trying try to hit them, and hilarity ensues!

There isn't much to explain.  Just move around and shoot bouncing bullets at your friends.  A very simple experience, but it can be a lot of fun with the right people in the room.

While it is definitely a very simple concept, I found the fact that you can only have one shot in play at a time to encourage a lot of strategic play.  Its not just all button mashing!

There are multiple game-modes, each with different objectives.  There are:  Deathmatch, Capture the flag, and keep-away.  Each provides a somewhat unique experience to the battlefield.

There are also several stages.  Some with spikes, some with teleporters, and others still with icy landscapes that you slide across!  All of these environmental hazards can have a major effect on how the battlefield works.

I have implied multiple times that there is no online multiplayer, but just be aware that at the moment there is no online multiplayer, and I am not aware of any plans to add it.  If you don't have any friends who want to play with you, you'll probably want to pass this up.

There are some glitches, but as the game is still in production, I can't hold these issues against it.

Summary:

A decent little game to pass the time and have some stupid crazy fun with your friends!  I was laughing almost the entire time I was playing!

  • Pros:
  • Simple controls
  • Decent soundtrack
  • hilarious light-hearted fun

  • Cons:
  • Mouse and keyboard controls are odd
  • Low quality sprites and uninteresting backgrounds

SCORE:  7 / 10
