Premise:
Splatoon is Nintendo's fresh new take on the shooter genre. Splatoon is more about land control and strategy than taking out your opponents, which is still important. The basic concept is to cover as much ground in your color ink as possible while taking out your opponents.
Splatoon has a few game modes, and each one brings a unique experience to the field.
Visuals:
From an artistic standpoint, Splatoon is a wonder to behold. The characters are colorful and appealing, the ink effect on the ground is simply gorgeous, each weapon has its own unique look, and the environments have had a lot of work put into them. There are some seemingly mundane details that have been added to stages that you wouldn't know you wanted until you saw them. The lighting is also great, I love the reflections and shadow effects in this game. Jaggies are hard to find here!

Menus/Interface:
Another plus. The menu system is easy to navigate, and everything is very clearly laid out.
Controls:
In-game we have the option of using the classic dual control sticks (Something which I strongly advise against), and using the new control scheme which Nintendo has provided. This new control scheme employs the classic dual control sticks, in addition to the Gamepad adding motion controls to the mix, allowing for extra-accurate targeting.
Controls are very fluid. I don't think I have ever played a shooter with such flawless controls.

Gameplay:
Splatoon is a crazy hectic game. As I said before, Splatoon is largely about land control. There is a constant push and pull between teams, almost like a real battlefield.
Make a small mistake? The opposing team has time to cover the map with their ink and push you back into your base.
Just took out the whole opposing team? Time to push to your opponent's base, or take some key corridors, or perhaps cover up that small spot near your base. The choice is up to you!
This game is NOT all about shooting at your opponents. If you go in with this mindset, you are bound to lose. Needless to say, even if you're a horrible shot, you still can be a valuable asset to a team.
While Splatoon does have a campaign, it really doesn't add too much to the experience, but it is fun to dabble with, and it does have its good moments.
A fresh take on the multiplayer shooter genre. Unique gameplay and weapon choices make this a must-have for any shooter enthusiast and non-shooter fans as well!
SCORE: 9.75/10
