Premise:

Use a wide variety of heroes to complete varying objectives!  Each hero has entirely unique abilities, and no two heroes are alike!  Find the hero which best suits your play-style and destroy the opposing team alongside your allies!

Visuals:

Example of visuals
A simply stunning game.  One of those rare games that will never be visually stale.  Every character is visually appealing, and character animations are smooth and believable.

Every inch of the environments are highly detailed with the greatest amount of care put into them.  Even the smallest corner hasn't been forgotten.

Sound/Music:

Excellent sound design.  There are plenty of sounds which alert you to in-game threats, when abilities are off cooldown, and numerous other pieces of important information.

Music is fun and memorable.

Menus/Interface:

Menus are all well laid out and self explanatory.

The ingame interface also happens to be quite masterfully crafted.

Controls:

Generally quite well designed, most abilities are mapped to buttons in an intuitive manner, although certain actions are mapped to slightly odd buttons.

This is easily remedied though, as they allow you to edit button maps.

Overwatch also contains an excellent tutorial which gets core concepts across to the player quickly without being too long-winded or wordy.  I was hopping into the action in less than 5 minutes!

Gameplay:

Smooth as butter.  Just moving your character around feels good.  Everything is highly responsive.

Generally it is a lot like other first person shooters, but it adds an extra layer of polish and excitement not found anywhere else.  Unique abilities allow you to change the battle quickly in your favor if used properly, and give each character a unique flavor.  You could easily think of Overwatch as a mix of Team Fortress 2 and League of legends.

The only real issue I have with Overwatch is the shallow and poorly thought out objectives.  The objectives so far consist of control points, payload, and capture points.  In my opinion, payload and capture points are somewhat unfair and one-sided.  Each team should have equal goals and objectves.  While everything in Overwatch seems new and exciting, most of the objectives seem boring, unfair, and rehashed.

Despite this complaint, the overall uniqueness of the game more than makes up for this single shortcoming.

Summary:

Overall one of the best games I have played in a while.  An instant classic!  You need to play this game!

  • Pros:
  • Gorgeous visuals
  • Well laid out and intuitive controls
  • Fast paced gameplay with constantly changing combat
  • Large variety of characters to suit any play-style

  • Cons:
  • Mostly unfair and boring objectives
SCORE:  9.5 / 10
