Kingdom Rush is a popular tower defense game which was developed by the indie studio Ironhide Studios. It has been released on numerous platforms, and has been critically acclaimed since its initial release in July of 2011. It has spawned two sequels to date, both of which are worthy of the Kingdom Rush name.
Premise:
Monsters are attacking! It is up to you to stop them! Defend the kingdom from invasion by employing a large variety of troops to defeat the monsters and drive them out!

Place your towers intelligently and strategically, or monsters will take full advantage of any weaknesses to massacre your defenses!
Visuals:
Kingdom Rush Visuals |
A cute sprite-based game, but unlike most sprite games, this game has high-quality, hand-crafted sprites for every unit, tower, and stage. Everything is really crisp and smooth, and animations are virtually flawless. Some of the best visuals I have seen in a game to date.
While pixel sprites can certainly look nice, Kingdom Rush takes sprites to the next level. No pixels here!
Music:
A very appealing soundtrack. It fits the game superbly, and it helps you get in the mood of the game.

Sound:
Lots of high-quality audio. Combat sounds for every unit and tower are clear. Characters and towers all have multiple voice clips, most of which are hilarious pop-culture references. Can you get them all?

Menus/Interface:
Menus are very well laid out. Everything is clearly labeled and exactly where you expect them to be.
The in-game interface is just as good. All the necessary information is displayed for you to perform at maximum efficiency.
Gameplay:
The main goal of Kingdom Rush is to prevent the monsters from reaching the end of the path and getting past your defenses. If enough monsters get past, your defense will be defeated, and you will have to restart the level from the beginning.
To prevent monsters from getting down the path, you must place towers on pre-determined slots to defeat or slow down enemies.
While in theory this may sound overly simplistic, the pre-determined slots eliminate a lot of unnecessary fiddling with tower placement. It streamlines the tower placement process, and puts more emphasis on placing the right towers in the right places, instead of making you wonder how many towers you can possibly squeeze into a tiny space.
There are 4 tower types, each with 2 unique branching upgrades, for a grand total of 8 end-game towers. Again, this may sound overly simplistic, but once again, I find that this also streamlines the tower placement process, and removes unnecessary redundancy in tower effects. Each tower is unique, and must be used intelligently to maximize its efficiency.
There are a lot of enemy types, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses, putting even more emphasis on proper tower placement. In some levels there will even be a boss enemy to defeat!
Controls:
Not exactly much to say. Tap here, tap there, place troops here, place troops there. Very simple and intuitive controls, although I find the incessant tapping on certain later levels to be a little silly. (In the case of the desktop versions, it would be "click" instead of "tap", but you get the idea.)
Do you have a brain? Yes? Then you can control this game.
Summary:
One of my favorite games of all time, and it is in my opinion the greatest mobile game ever released (Aside from its incredible sequels of course). This game is tons of fun, and it provides a fitting challenge! Do not pass this game up, it is a must play!
